About KCLR
Setting the new standard for independent Canadian funk
On August 4th, 2019, KC Roberts & the Live Revolution (KCLR) touched down at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to close out the band’s first-ever European tour. KCLR’s first LP was released in 2009, so after a full decade the band’s European fans were more than ready for their first live KCLR experience. Thousands of concertgoers in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria packed in to check out KCLR’s sold-out performances.
Fresh from the European tour, KCLR headed straight into Noble Street Studios, beginning sessions for their eighth full-length record, slated for release in early 2020. It will be the band’s first album project since 2015’s DVD and West Coast tour. That summer, KCLR hit 15 cities in 20 days, playing packed rooms from Edmonton to Los Angeles. Over a six-week span, 230 KCLR fans contributed over $37,000 in crowdfunding by pre-ordering two new albums: From the North Parts 1 & 2.
Over the past 10 years, KCLR has built an impressive resume, particularly for a fully original independent band. They've shared the stage with luminaries across genres, including Lettuce, Lee Fields, Blue King Brown and Mix Master Mike. The band's two Japanese exclusive releases through Creators Lounge have sold thousands of copies each. Meanwhile, the driving force behind these accomplishments is KCLR's determination to tackle massive artistic projects, none more ambitious than the 2013 double LP, Parkdale Funk 2: SIDES. The album’s 27 tracks highlight all of KCLR’s influences, and they left an immediate impression on fans and media alike. CBC Radio’s Errol Nazareth said of PDF2 that “I dug every track!.” Exclaim! Magazine praised PDF2’s “infectious, rhythmically virtuosic brand of funk [and] seamless detours into hip-hop, rock, drum & bass, reggae, Afro-beat and folk.” KCLR's momentum in 2019 proves that the best is yet to come.
